Abstract:

Elastoplastic analyses of thick-walled cylindrical tanks subjected to internal pressure by considering second order strains are investigated. Tresca yield criterion and linear isotropic work hardening assumptions are used to model material behavior in plastic zone. Second order strains in polar coordinate for symmetrical conditions have been calculated; consequently nonlinear compatibility equation has been derived. The behavior improvement of vessels and increasing of reservoirs’ capacity made of work hardening material with respect to the vessels made of Elastic-Perfectly-Plastic material are observed. Numerical examples are conducted and results are presented.
