Role of IPPNW in Health For Peace

Doctors are professionally, ethically and morally bound to dutyof care to the sick and the infirm. The International Physicians forPrevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) was formed in the year 1980by Dr. Bernard Lown from USA and Dr. Evgueni Chazov fromUSSR with the purpose to build public opinion and lobby withthe decision makers to take steps for nuclear disarmament andcheck on proliferation of small arms. For its efforts IPPNW wasawarded Nobel Peace Prize in 1985. As a major partner in theInternational Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN)recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize 2017, we succeeded in gettingthe Treaty Prohibiting Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). Much needs tobe done ahead to make this world free of nuclear weapons, smallarms and end to violence of all kinds.
