Abstract:
The present study attempted to investigate the correlation of shyness, risktaking and anxiety among EFL male and female sophomore universitystudents. To do this, the researcher randomly selected 86universitystudents from Azad University of Mashhad, majoring in Englishteaching. They were given three separate questionnaires; Shame Scale byCook (1996), Risk taking questionnaire made by the researcher based onreviews of Skeel, Neadecker, Pilarski and Pytlak(2007) and Korkmaz,(2002), and Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) on asingle day. Analyzing the data revealed that there was a significantcorrelation between the males’ shyness and risk taking. Also, there was apositive correlation between males’ shyness and anxiety. Moreover, thefindings revealed that there was a significant relationship betweenshyness and risk taking in females. And, there was a significantcorrelation between the females’ shyness and anxiety.
