Abstract:
The electrophoretic deposition (EPD) technique was used to create a uniform SiO2 thin film coating on boiling plates, 4 mm in width and 9 mm in length. Significant enhancement in critical heat flux (CHF), for the hydrophilic surfaces generated by this anodic EPD method, is conspicuous also, to increase the strength of coating, the coated plates were sintered in various temperature ranges. To find the thickness and uniformity of the particle-coating, the SEM images were taken. The captured images denoted that the coating thickness was uniformly increased by the EPD method. The results show that the hydrophilic and superhydrophilic surfaces have different boiling heat transfer coefficient (BHT) and CHF behaviors. However, because of the setup simplicity, the shape independency, the particlecoating uniformity and thickness controllability, the EPD technique would be an appropriate option to create nanocoating for the nuclear reactor clads.
