Abstract:
In the most welding processes, the origin of the coordinate system moves with the heat source at aconstant speed V in the negative direction. Except forthe initial and final transients of welding, heat flow in a work piece of sufficient length is steady or quasistationary, with respect to the moving heat source. In other words, for an observer moving with the heat source, the temperature distribution and the poolgeometry do not change with time. In this paper,thermal behavior of welding is simulated, which is dependent on basis material, heat flux from theelectrode and welding speed. The effects of thewelding speed and the magnitude of the heat source onthe thermal behaviors of the heat affected zone (HAZ)is presented. It is shown that, decreasing the weldingspeed causes to reduce the area of HAZ in the normaldirection of welding while it has not any significanteffect in the welding direction.
