Abstract:
In this paper, using two-phase mixture model, forced convection of a laminar flow of a nanofluid inside a horizontal pipe with elliptical cross section is numerically studied. In this model, continuity, momentum and energy equations for the mixture, a volume fraction equation for the phase of nanoparticles and algebraic expressions for the relative velocities are solved. Finite volume method is used to discretize governing equations. Physical Properties of the fluid, are assumed constant. Nanofluid inside the pipe is assumed Newtonian and incompressible. Nanoparticles are spherical and at the same size. The base fluid and nanoparticles are assumed at local thermal equilibrium and move at different velocities. Uniform wall heat flux is used as a boundary condition for the pipe. The effects of volume fraction of nanoparticles and aspect ratio on the Nusselt number, friction coefficient and velocity profile are presented and analyzed
