EXPLAINING CRAVING IN DRUG ADDICTS THROUGH THOUGHT CONTROL STRATEGY, HOPE AND LIFE SATISFACTION

Abstract:
Background and Aim : The present study aims to explaining craving in drug addicts through thought control strategy, hope and life satisfaction in addicts referred to addiction treatment centers in Urmia.Methods : The research was descriptive survey. The participants of the study were 150 addicts who referred to addiction treatment centers in Urmia with a range of 25 to 70 years old who were selected by multistage random cluster sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires, Thought Control (Wells and Davis, 1994); Craving drugs (Somusa et al., 1995); Hope (Schneider et al., 1997) and Life satisfaction (Hubert et al., 1994) were obtained.Results : The results showed that between craving for substances and components with thought control strategy, hope and life satisfaction and their components, there is a negative and significant relationship. Hope and its components 46.5 percent, strategies for controlling thoughts and its components 43.8 percent, and satisfaction with life and its components 42.7 percent avoid craving for addicted people in addicts in Urmia.Conclusion : At the centers of drug addiction, with the help of psychologists, training classes should be developed to strengthen the methods of controlling thoughts, with the hope that their level of satisfaction with life will be increased to prevent them from growing craving.
