Abstract:
In this study, the possibility of removal of chloride ions from monoethylene glycol solution containing high chloride concentration through the chemical precipitation of insoluble Friedel’s salt, created by the addition of calcium and aluminum compounds, was investigated. Aluminum was supplied from sodium aluminate, aluminum sulfate and aluminum hydroxide. Lime was used as calcium resource. Factors affecting the chloride removal efficiency are the molar ratio of Ca: Al: Cl (0.5 - 3), reaction time (10-120 min), pH (6.5 - 12.2), weight percent of monoethylene glycol (30 - 70 %), and initial chloride concentration (500-10000 mg/L) were investigated.
