Abstract:

In this work, mesoporous SBA-15 was modifieded by impregnation of [C4mim][PF6] ionic liquid forsamarium adsorption. This adsorbent was characterized using powder X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), nitrogen adsorptiondesorptionand fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. Tests were then conducted to study the adsorption ofsamarium ions onto [C4mim][PF6]-SBA-15 from an aqueous solution for the effect of pH, contact time and initialconcentration of samarium in batch systems. Freundlich and Langmuir models were used for a mathematics descriptionof the adsorption isotherm. The equilibrium process was described well by the Langmuir isotherm model with themaximum sorption capacity of 89.28 mg.g-1 of samarium on [C4mim][PF6]-SBA-15. The kinetics analysis revealedthat the overall adsorption process was successfully fitted with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. All the resultsvalidated the feasibility of [C4mim][PF6]-SBA-15 for highly effective adsorption of samarium from an aqueoussolution.
