Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between self-efficacy and attitude and speaking skills of Iranian EFL learners. The present research is correlational and descriptive. The population of the study consisted of 420 secondary EFL learners in Lamerd city, Iran. In this research, stratified random sampling was used to determine the sample. Based on the Morgan table, 200 male and female students were selected as the statistical sample. Data collection tools were two questionnaires: Sherer and Maddox’s Self-efficacy Questionnaire (1982) and Harter s Academic Motivation Questionnaire (1980). The reliability of the instruments was verified by means of Cronbach s alpha coefficient which was found to be .78 for Self-efficacy Questionnaire and .90 for Academic Motivation Questionnaire, respectively. Pearson correlation coefficient and linear regression analysis were run to analayze the data. The results of this study indicated that there is a positive and significant relationship between self-efficacy and attitude and speaking skills of Iranian EFL learners.
