Abstract:

At the beginning of this century, most of the cities have been undergoing a rapid acceleration of changes particularly in the term of urban ecologies. Nowadays, environmental pollution, energy crisis and depletion of natural resources are the major problems which many cities suffer from them. Therefore, pay attention to environmental strategies and ecological dimensions such as utilization of renewable energies and climatic adaption during the design process of cities can be used as a significant solution for passing from the natural disaster. As world populations grow and urban design intend to create sustainable forms and configurations, consideration to the biophilic design and inspiration from nature emerge in this era of fast-evolving renewable energy. In this context, biophilic design is a complex phenomenon which encompasses the nature as an essential element of urban design and photosynthetic resources of the city. As a term, the biophilic Masdar city emphasizes to design a modern, livable and eco-friendly city in the frame of ecological durability with minimum environmental footprint and high level of energy efficiency alongside with enhancement of life quality. Thus, integration of renewable energy with eco tech technologies in both passive and active design in the criteria of urban scale has been accomplished in Masdar. The main purpose of this paper is intended to illustrate the prospect of the reasoning behind the utilization of biophilic design as sustainable solutions from the individual unit to urban scale in the city of Masdar through the problem solving method. As a result, this study achieved many positive and efficient outcomes of biophilic or green infrastructure strategies which can be used as a guide and beneficial tools for designing the future generation of cities.
