Abstract:

The principles dominating the democratic systems, which claim to be the true defenders of human freedom, play a pivotal role in legal and moral philosophy. Indubitably, one of these principles is related to the voting rights of the prisons the criminals who are given a prison term for the crime they have committed. Long established views in criminal Criminology and sociology place a high premium on the voting rights of the prisoners in democratic communities only excepting these who are insane or inborn criminals. Accordingly, based on relevant Psychological and sociological models, the present study sought to specify and explain the basic features of the Italy legal system in order to investigate the voting rights of the prisoners in Great Italian as a leading democratic society. The findings revealed that the prisoners in Italy are deprived of the right to vote, an issue which is a direct violation of the proclaimed democratic principles.
