Abstract:

In the present paper, response of a plate resting on the elastic foundation and subjected to the impact loading of a ball is evaluated in order to determine the plate transverse deflection. The equations of motion were derived based on the Hamilton principle. Classicaltheory of plate deformation has been used. The hinged boundary conditions were considered for all sides. A variety of impact conditions including impact load value, plate thickness, plate material and the elastic foundation stiffness were used in evaluations. Resultsshow that there is significant difference between the deflection of steel and Teflon plates. Elastic foundation value has low effect on the plate deflection in case of the steel plate but its influence is more evident in case of Teflon plate. Results also show that the displacement of the plate at the impacted point is significantly higher than the points are not close to the impacted point which illustrates the concentric nature of the impact loading
