Abstract:
The proposed paper is about various properties and specification of Pulse Amplitude and Delay Modulation (PADM) for improving the power efficiency of indoor optical wireless communications are studied and compared to other modulation techniques which are Pulse Position Modulation (PPM), Differential Pulse Position Modulation (DPPM), Digital Pulse Interval Modulation (DPIM) and Dual Header Pulse Interval Modulation (DHPIM). The behaviour of the modulation techniques was simulated by using MATLAB. In the analysis and simulation, parameters such as normalized bandwidth efficiency, normalized average optical power requirement, normalized information capacity and normalized symbol transmission rate are considered and analysed. Based on the simulation result, PADM improved the bandwidth efficiency around 20% by comparing with PPM, DPPM, DPIM and DHPIM for the same number of bit for input is applied. Besides, when the same duration of Ts is applied for all the modulation techniques, the transmission rate of PADM is two times higher than other modulation techniques. However, the power efficiency of PADM is lower than other modulation techniques and need to be improved. Furthermore, the bandwidth utilization efficiency is highest when the input block size, M is equal to 3. Therefore, it shows that the bestinput block size is 3 for the PADM technique
