Abstract:

In this paper, an intelligent pressure controller for a specific Blowdown Supersonic Wind Tunnels (BSWTs) based on fuzzy logic with the aim of achieving the accurate and acceptable results is presented. The quality of the proposed Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) can be drastically affected by the choice of membership functions domains. Thus, optimal methods for designing the FLC are needed. Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) is used in a novel way to solve the problem of designing the membership function for the FLC output or control valve opening. In this way, firstly, the nonlinear mathematical model of the special BSWT consisting of a set of ordinary differential and algebraic equation that derived from mass and energy conservation equations is developed in Matlab/Simulink. Secondly, an ANFIS network is used as an inverse model of the tunnel for finding the optimum membership functions of the FLC output. This optimal method can help for reasonable system recognition. Finally, the simulation results based on the wind tunnel operational map and experimental verifications for a Mach 3 blowdown run are presented. The results demonstrate the accuracy and robustness of the wind tunnel simulator model and its FLC system. The optimal design of the pressure controller is caused to achieve a minimal transient run time (less than 1 sec).
