Abstract:

A major part of energy consumption in each society is devoted to building sector. Thus, energy efficiency has a significant impact on sustainable operation of the buildings. This work proposes using thermoelectric module for localized space heating in the buildings as an alternative to traditional HVAC systems. We have applied Taguchi method to evaluate the impact of design parameters on performance of the system. The design parameters include fan’s operating mode, system operating time, and fan’s speed. The analysis indicates the highest impact on outlet temperature is related to fan’s speed, operating time, and fan’s operating mode, respectively. In addition, the system is capable to make 6 °C temperature difference to ambient temperature. This prototype can be considered as a first experimental setup aiming to provide localized space heating in different type of building including residential, commercial or industrial. However, the operating condition of the proposed system should be checked with conventional HVAC systems to provide desired thermal comfort in an acceptable operating period.
