Abstract:

This article presents the experimental fallouts of sorption of copper and desorption by surfactant from the pH-adjusted aqueous solution at changing initial concentrations onto a clayey soil through batch equilibrium. Soil sample for the experimental effort was collected from non-vegetation depth through an open excavation. The pH variety was varied from acidic to neutral ranging from 3 to 6 for experiments. By daily day wise observation for 10 days it was determined that the concentration of copper metal remaining in the solution with time was nonlinear .Contaminants concentration was fast for first 3 days and then its proportion was slower for the rest of the days.A nonionic surfactant was verified for its desorption potential with different concentrations on the samples contaminated by copper, it was observed that desorption of metal occurs within 2 to 3 days and was found to be fairly effective with removal of more than 61.8% to 97.5%. The soil pH and difference in the time were the most significant factors in controlling the removal of copper in remediation process.
