Abstract:

One of the methods that help the learners to understand something better is self-talk. It can improve both the fluency and accuracy of learners’ speaking. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effects of positive self-talk on EFL learners’ speaking fluency.The present research was conducted with the participation of 50 students in a school in Nour, Iran. They were divided into two groups: experimental (N=25) and control (N=25).The researcher administered an Oxford Placement Test (OPT) and 50 students were chosen from among 100 students. The experimental group received positive self-talk instruction. At the end of the experiment, the researcher administrated the post-tests to both groups to assess the participant’s fluency. The results showed that the experimental group outperformed the control group in terms of speaking fluency. The study can be of use for teachers and material developers. The contents of materials should be related to both explicit learning and implicit learning.
