Preparation of Temperature-Responsive PDMAEMAPS Core-Shell Polymer Nanoparticles abstract

Stimuli-responsive polymer nanoparticles are a significant class of smart materialswere investigated extensively in recent years because of potential applications indifferent fields such as drug-delivery and gen-delivery systems. In this research, atemperature-responsive core-shell polymer nanoparticles (CSPs) by emulsionpolymerization of styrene (hydrophobic shell) and dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate (hydrophilic core) was synthesized, which core crosslinked and shellgrafted on its surface. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) was used to investigation ofparticle size and its distribution, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) used forstudy of the morphology of core-shell nanoparticles. Obtained results showed thatthe CSPs have a size about 100 nm. The particle size of CSP was decreased byincreasing of temperature above lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of thePDMAEMA. It is due to swelling of core with water below LCST, and deswellingfrom water above LCST of the PDMAEMA.
