48TMorphological comparison of two sexes of Garyz (Liza subviridis) in Persian Gulf, Coastal area of Bandar Abbas

The aim of this study was determine morphological characteristics to separate femaleand male of Liza subviridis in the coastal area of Bandar Abbas, (HormozganProvince, Persian Gulf). A total of 39 specimens were collected by traditional set net(Moshta), during winter 2011. In this study 27 morphometric and 9 meristiccharacters were measured. The morphometric characteristic was standardized priorto analysis to remove the effect of allometric growth. The proper characteristics toseparate two sexes, was surveyed using Principal Components Analysis (PCA) andthese traits including; Total length, pre-dorsal length, post-dorsal length, dorsal finlength, anal fin length, pectoral fin length, ventral fin length, head length, head depth,preanal length, snout length, mandible length and total weigh. Seven factors ofmorphometric and 4 of meristic characters were showed 90.3 percent and 70 % ofcharacters variety between different sexes, respectively. Our results revealed thatmorphometric and meristic characters overlapped and there is no sexual dimorphismin terms of morphological characteristics.
