Abstract:
Industrial usage of metallic matrix composites have increased recently and thus there has been produced vast amount of MMC scraps. From ecological point of view it should be necessary to recover MMC scraps economically. On the other part, porous metallic materials would be a good candidate for recovered metallic composites. In this survey sintering and dissolution process has been used to synthesize open cellular composite materials from copper matrix composite scraps. Open and interconnected porous medium product is utilized in mass and heat transfer applications. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy have been used for analyzing the materials. Mechanical testing also confirm the potential of this method for recovery of metal matrix composite scraps to cellular one.
