Bidirectional Buck-Boost Integrated Converter for Plug-in Electric Vehicles with Active and Reactive Power Controlling Capability abstract

This paper proposes a bidirectional buck-boost integrated converter which is able to work in four different modes in addition to reactive power compensating. Charging the battery of plug-in electric vehicle (PEV), PEV’s electric motor propulsion, returning regenerative energy to battery, and returning stored battery energy to grid are the converter’s operation modes. It is also has the ability to control active and reactive power depending on smart grid commands or costumer requirements. Working as a buck-boost converter in both directions enables it to work under a wide battery voltage range and also work under different driving cycles with different braking conditions. A suitable control method is introduced, which can control the active and reactive power in charging and Electric to Vehicle (E2V) modes. The simulation is done in MATLAB/SIMULINK software in different modes and results validate the system analysis
