Effect of Thermal Reclamation on Compressive Strength of OPC Mortar using Waste Foundry Sand as aggregate abstract

Waste Foundry Sand (WFS) is the by-product of casting process, which is needed to be reused and recycled due to the presence of some hazardous minerals and chemical admixtures. In this paper, two types of WFS are used as aggregate in Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) mortar; green casting process (type 1) and shell casting process (type 2). To remove contaminants, the thermal reclamation method was used. Results show that the compressive strength of mortar using reclaimed sand is 10% more than unreclaimed sand after 91 days. So, the thermal reclamation method is effective in the performance of OPC mortar using WFS as aggregate.
