PA6 nano-composite gear performance abstract
Polymeric gears possess wide spread applications because of their advantages including low cost, low noise, self-lubrication. Polyamide (PA) is an engineering polymer which is largely used in gears manufacture. nano-CaCO3 was employed to enhance the durability of gears. PA6-nanocomposite gears with different weight fractions of nano-CaCO3 were prepared by applying twin-screw extruder followed by injection molding. The nanocomposite gears were assessed in term of wear resistance and surface temperature using a gear test rig. The gears wear was characterized by measuring span-size control parameter. The result of experimentations revealed that the wear rate of PA6/CaCO3 nanocomposite gear with 1wt% of nano-CaCO3 concentration is 65% less than pure PA6 gears
