Experimental study of mechanical properties of PA6 nanocomposites abstract

Polyamide 6 (PA6) is widely used as an engineering plastic due to its superior mechanical properties, tribological performance and chemical resistance. Nanocomposite based on Polyamide6 containing 1 to 5 phr of nanosized precipitated calcium carbonate (NPCC) and 5 phr of maleated polypropylene (PP-g-MAH) as compatibilizer were produced by using twin-screw extruder and injection molding. The mechanical properties were studied. The incorporation of nano-CaCO3 into PA6 led to the 38% increment of tensile modulus and 22% increase in flexural modulus.
