Abstract:

Corrosion is a destructive and cost producing phenomena, that annually causes wasting massive amount of world conserves. A well known and very destructive type of corrosion is crevice corrosion, which usually is watched in crevices, and narrow clearances between two parts of attached metals in a corrosion media. Although, so many experiments have been done to reveal the mechanism and to discover methods leading to preventing this type of corrosion. This work has been devoted to the crevice corrosion and introduces a simple method to prevent that. In this method, attempt has been down to minimize the dead space that causes the crevice corrosion. The attention has been taken into AISI 316 stainless steel and aluminum as metallic samples. Results shows that, concentration of H2O-NaCl solution increases, the corrosion pace is also increased for both aluminum and steel for all types of isolators and aluminum resists better than stainless steel for crevice corrosion in aqueous Cl− solutions containing oxygen.
