In this project, the possibility of changing the method of surface irrigation (flooding) to subsurface irrigation system (cement pipe) was studied on mature pistachio trees. Thisresearchwas conductedas arandomized complete block designwithfour treatments and three replications. Treatments included: control (S) irrigated by flooding consistent with previous irrigation with 26 days irrigation frequency and the volume of 6752 cubic meters per hectare, T1 treatment, subsurface irrigation with cement pipes with a water content of 70% of the water used to control(4610 cubic meters per hectare) and 26 days irrigation frequency.T2 treatment, subsurface irrigation with cement pipes with a water content of 60% of the water used to control(3926 cubic meters per hectare) and 26 days irrigation frequency and T3 treatment, subsurface irrigation with cement pipes with a water content of 50% of the water used to control(3146 cubic meters per hectare) and 26 days irrigation frequency.To study the effects of irrigation method changing on pistachio trees, at specified times, growth characteristics and the yield quantity and quality features were measured.Then water use productivity (WUP) was calculated. The results showed thatfresh and dryweight, in T1treatmentsignificantly increasedcompared to thecontroltreatment.There was no significantdifference between T2treatmentandcontrolIn case offresh and dryweightand between T2 treatment andfloodingtreatment (S)In case offresh and dryweight.Control (S) treatment was, significantly, better than T3 treatment, T1 and T3 treatments had maximum and minimum yield, 1676 and 1027 gram/tree, respectively. Also,T1 and Streatments had maximum and minimum WUP, 519 and 266 gram per cubic meter, respectively.The results of soil salinity in the root zone of trees in autumn (before leaching) also showed an increase in soil salinity in the soil surface and above the subsurface pipes. But, electrical conductivity of soil saturated extract after leaching and precipitation in the winter was appropriate.
