A review of methods for preparation of narrow sized polymer beads in suspension polymerization

Polymer beads can be produced in various processes among which, the suspension polymerization is remarkable due to the production of beads in micrometer scale. However, incapability of suspension polymerization to produce uniform beads with narrow size distribution is its great limitation. To overcome this problem and due to the high economical demands for polymer products, prepared from uniform beads, a great extent of researches have been focused on narrow sizing of the beads in suspension polymerzation. Using loop reactors, membrane, microchannels, nozzles, and orifice, all have been employed to diperse monomer or polymer solutions in such a way to obtain uniform polymer beads. In this paper, the characteristics of each methods are reviewed.
