Abstract:
The objective of this paper is to study the influence of chemical ingredients of seawater (sulfate and chloride) on concrete containing silica fume. In the experimental phase of this study, 108 cubic concrete specimens (70×70×70 mm) with 9 mix designs including three different W/CM (0.25,0.3, 0.4) and three different SF/CM (%0, %5, %10), were made, cast and cured. The specimens were put in 4 environments, i.e. ordinary, intensified sulfate solution, intensified chloride solution and intensified mix sulfate and chloride solution. Laboratory tests were done after 6 months. The tests included compression strength, water absorption, mass reduction and measuring chloride penetration depth. The experimental data showed significant influence of silica fume on t he durability of concrete in seawater condition
