Abstract:

In order to study the effect of different levels of nitrogen fertilizer and irrigation on yield of barley in dryland condition an experiment was conducted during two 2003-2004 and 2004- 2005 growing season in Dryland Research Station in Northern Khorasan( Shirvan). Different levels of nitrogen were; without fertilizer, 20, 40 and 60 Kg/h pure nitrogen from source of urea. Irrigation treatments were; without irrigation, irrigation at planting time, at flowering and grain filling stage. The experiment was split plot and conducted as complete block design with 4 replications. Nitrogen treatments located in main plot and irrigation treatments in sub plot. Seed rate was 300 seed per square meter and 50 Kg super phosphate triple used at planting. The results showed that the effect of supplemental irrigation and nitrogen fertilizer and supplemental irrigation on some recorded traits were significant. In 2003-2004 growing season number of days to heading and days to maturity in irrigation at planting time respectively were 214 and 257 days that compared with other treatments were higher. Seed and biological yield in these treatments in this growing season were 1809 and 3958 Kg/h that compared with other treatments were lower. In 2004-2005 growing season number of days to heading and days to maturity in irrigation at planting time in order 3 and 9 days were lower. Number of ear per square meter in this year at irrigation at planting time was 279 that was significantly higher than other treatments. Seed and biological yield in this irrigation treatment were 1331 and 3165 Kg/h that were significantly higher than other treatments.
