Abstract:
Although narratives have been widely investigated in the field of second/foreign language (L2) education, the existenceand role of narratives in L2 classroom discourse has received comparatively little attention. In an effort to fill this gap inthe literature, this study focuses on the use of narratives in an English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom context inIran. Using a case study methodology, audio-recordings from the lessons of an EFL teacher were transcribed andanalyzed to identify the narratives. A single semi-structured interview session was also conducted with the teacher togain access to his opinion about using narratives during his teaching. The data showed that the teacher used personalkind of narratives in his classroom as a tool for self-expression and identity construction.
