Modeling of Ultrafiltration Membranes for Oil Wastewater Treatment abstract

Extensive use of derivatives of oil and gas in most major industries such as oil refineries and petrochemical plantsincreased the risk of contamination in water resources. The usual methods for treating wastewater contaminatedwith oil and grease lubricants are as follows:Physical, chemical and biological. They will use separately or incombination in industrial wastewater treatment. One of the new promising method is membrane technology.Among the advantages of membrane processes, saving energy and reduce space requirements are noted. Amongthese membranes technology, microfiltration and ultrafiltration process are mostly used for oil and oilcontaminated materials wastewater treatment. In this study, examination of ultrafiltration membranes forpurification of oily wastewater has been studied. The results showed that Hermia model for the formation of themembrane layer cake is the best match to the experimental results, and the main cause of membrane foulingmechanism is forming of cake layer.
