Comparative study in role of different solvents on synthesis of Quetiapine hemifumarate salt as an antipsychotic drug abstract
Quetiapine, a dibenzothiazepine derivative, is an antipsychotic drug with anti-dopaminergic activity. Quetiapinehemifumarate is the commercially marketed pharmaceutically active substance of quetiapine which prepared bydissolving quetiapine free base and fumaric acid in a suitable solvent. In this survey Quetiapine hemi-fumarate salt isprepared in good yield with modifications to make it simpler and commercially viable. In these environmentallyecofriendly processes, quetiapine hemi-fumarate salt is crystallized in two alcoholic solvents (methanol/isopropanol)with modified amount of not hazard solvents. Further the present study provides quetiapine Hemi-fumarate crystallineform in high purity more than 99.5 %.
