CENTER FOR ENGINEERING STRONG-MOTION DATA (CESMD abstract
The Center for Engineering Strong-Motion Data (CESMD) was established jointly by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the California Geological Survey (CGS) in 2006 with the goal of providing a single access point for engineers, seismologists and others to obtain earthquakestrong-motion records and station metadata from national and international strong-motion networks. The CESMD has operational centers in Sacramento and Menlo Park, California, and products are generated by both CGS and USGS facilities. Each national and international strong-motion network providing data is identified and credited for its contributions. The CESMD web site provides interactive tools to assist users in reviewing, selecting, and downloading strong-motion records. These tools include interactive maps to quickly display location of earthquake and strong-motion stations, using symbols corresponding to the type of station (ground response or structural) and color-coding to indicate PGA values. Major development efforts of the CESMD has recently focused on porting software and data holdings of the COSMOS Virtual Data Center into the CESMD, and on automatic posting of preliminary processed data. The goal of these developments is to continually improve access by theearthquake engineering community in order to better utilize strong-motion data and metadata world-wide.
