The role of extension education in empowering water users through optimizing agricultural water resource management

The present paper is based on a literature review of and aims to empowerment of water users regarding the topic agriculture wastewater, focusing on education as an essential factor in development of agricultural programs. In recent years, agricultural water has helped meet fast-rising demand for food, and has contributed to the growth of farm profitability and poverty reduction as well as to regional development and environmental protection. At present, 2400 million people depend on irrigated agriculture for food and livelihood and with global population to increase to 7.9 billion in 2025; additional food will have to come from irrigated agriculture. Hence, water development is critical for food security in many regions of the world. Keeping in view the above points, this paper provides a theatrical framework for identifying role of extension and education as the main engine for agricultural functional promotion or human capital development in agricultural sector (to change human resources (HR) to human capitals (HC)], for optimizing agricultural water management. Documents revealed that for improving irrigation management, efforts are focused on the empowerment of water users associations and their involvement in resource management.
