Abstract:

Concerns on environmental pollution due to Nitroaromatics mainly generated through industrial activities, has been greatly increased in recent years. P-nitrophenol (PNP) biodegradation as related to the influential parameters, in this process, has been studied. Ralstonia eutropha was used in this study and the results were evaluated using statistical analysis. Regression technique based on selecting four independent variables was applied in this study while monitoring the system was done by measuring the remained PNP in the test solution. The four regressors were: concentrations of PNP at beginning of the reaction, glucose as the source of carbon choice, yeast extract as the nitrogen source, and the time of this biochemical reaction. The coefficient of determination, R2, was equaled to 0.88 which gave an explanation for the role of selected regressors in this process. Furthermore, the time regressor was removed from the obtained equation and the regression technique was performed again considering only three items used in the medium preparation, while the reaction time kept constant at 9 hrs. At this situation, the calculated coefficient of determination was 0.96. The results were discussed in terms of R2s and the coefficients in the fitted equations with and without time as one of the controllable factors.
