Evaluation of Marital Satisfaction Based on Quality of Life and Mental Health in pregnant and non-pregnant women abstract
Introduction: Marital satisfaction is one of the factors affecting the stability and reliability, as well as mental health of the family and preventing stressors among pregnancy. The aim of this study was to assess marital satisfaction based on quality of life and mental health in two groups of pregnant and non-pregnant women in Ardabil city.Methods: This descriptive correlational study was performed on 100 pregnant women and 100 non-pregnant women referring to urban health centers affiliated to Ardabil University of Medical Sciences who were selected by cluster sampling.Accumulating tool of information involved standard ENRICH questionnaires which had 47 questions about marriagesatisfaction with 0.95 reliability coefficient and Goldberg and Hiler’s remedial healthy questionnaires which had 28 questions with 0.84 reliability coefficient and
Quality of Life Questionnaire QLQ which had 192 questions with 0.78 reliability coefficient. Questionnaires were completed by mothers themselves who had the necessary qualifications of research units. Information was analyzed by SPSS 18 and statistical T-Test and Spearman correlation coefficient . Results: It was not seen significant difference in 100 un-pregnant women with 135.61±15.53 average ENRICH scores and in 100 pregnant women with 136.38±18.37 average ENRICH scores in the amount of marriage satisfaction . There was no significant difference in the quality of life between the groups. But there was a significant difference in mental health score of the studied groups (p <0.05). There was a significant relationship between mental health and quality of life with marital satisfaction in the study groups (p <0.05). Those with high mental health and quality of life also had high marital satisfaction. Conclusion:According to the results of the study, since marital satisfaction is considered as one of the indicators of mental health and life expectancy, Advice on improving quality of life and promoting mental health during pregnancy and during marital life is suggested to prevent and treat early problems in mental health, thereby reducing the potential for marital conflict and improving their communication skills.
