Relationship between Hardiness and Marital Satisfaction in Women with Breast Cancer abstract

Background:When a couple confronts cancer, there is amajor impact on theirpsychosocial life.Marital life and satisfaction are important factors in the qualityof life of breast cancer patients. The aim of this research was to predict maritalsatisfaction based on hardiness in women with breast cancer.Methods: A total of 100 women with breast cancer participated in this studyand completed the Kobasa Personal View Survey and ENRICH (evaluation andnurturing relationship issues, communication, and happiness) MaritalSatisfaction Scale. The study was conducted in Rasol Akrm Hospital, Tehran,Iran. Descriptive statistics, correlation, and linear regression were used for dataanalysis.Results: The results showed a significant relationship between hardiness andmarital satisfaction. Moreover, hardiness determined 13% of the variance ofmarital satisfaction.Conclusions: Hardiness as an efficient coping style in breast cancer is animportant factor to improve perceived marital satisfaction in breast cancer.Therefore, healthcare professionals such as psycho-oncologists can promoteresiliency in breast cancer patients by improving cognitive hardiness in theirpatients.
