Paradigms for Treating Breast Cancers Have Changed: The One-Size-Fits-All Is no Longer True abstract
The treatment of breast cancer is changing so muchso that a recent JAMA 2019 editorial Breast CancerTreatment did not even mention surgery orradiotherapy in the article.1 The management protocolschange regularly making multidisciplinarymanagement mandatory.ScreeningScreening protocols have helped to discoverprogressively smaller tumors, aided by the technicaltools, such as tomosynthesis and more recentlyArtificial Intelligence. AI demonstrated betteraccuracy than experienced radiologists. There areseveral limiting factors at play in screening includingage, cost, interval lesions and delivery of radiation. Inprospect, focusing on high-risk population isobviously the solution with the liquid biopsies andyoung radiologists having to fundamentally rethinktheir procedures.
