Abstract:
Background: Dementia and cognitive decline mainly affect olderpeople. Several instruments have been developed for screening anddetection of cognitive impairments, among them is the short form of theinformant questionnaire on cognitive decline in the elderly (IQCODES);however, there was no instrument to assess it in Persian languagespeakers. The purpose of the present study was to validate the Persianversion of informant questionnaire on cognitive decline in the elderlyshortform (IQCODE-S).Methods: In this study, WHO's standard 'forward-backward'translation procedure was performed. Validity and reliability of thequestionnaire were evaluated and it was administered in a sample of۳۷۳ inpatient Iranian elderlies. The convenient sampling wasperformed to include participants from family members care givingolder patients with long diagnosed of dementia. Face and contentvalidity were evaluated and reliability of the instrument was evaluated.Significant level was set at ۰.۰۵.Results: The mean age of the participants was ۷۱.۰۸ ± ۹.۸۹ years.Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was ۰.۸۲. Significant correlations wereobserved between cognitive status and age, marital status, educationand hospitalized wards (Pvalue < ۰.۰۵). Appropriate CVI and CVRwere calculated as .۸۵ and .۷ respectively.Conclusions: This study reports on translation and validation ofPersian version of one of the most important screening tools fordementia. It reveals significant association between the elderlies’cognitive decline and their age, marital status, education, andhospitalized ward.
