Abstract:
We used the aqueous extract of Viscum album to synthesize silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) at room temperature. Use of plant extracts is recognized as a low-cost green method for the synthesis of NPs. In this study, for characterizing AgNPs, multiple methods were applied, including UV-Vis spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, SEM, XRD, and TEM analyses. Based on the UV-Vis analysis, there was a peak at ۴۶۳ nm, indicative of the surface plasmon resonance of AgNPs. Also, XRD analysis was used to characterize the crystalline structure of NPs. Using FTIR spectroscopy, specific functional groups, involved in AgNO۳ reduction for AgNP formation, were determined. Based on the TEM analysis, AgNPs had an average particle size of ۶.۲۰۹+۱۳.۰۳ nm. They could diminish bacterial growth through formation of well-defined inhibition zones according to the antibacterial assays.
