Monitoring of Masjed-Soleyman Earthfill Dam by Comparison of Geodetic, Geotechnical and Analytical Methods abstract

Certainly one of the main engineering structures are dams. Therefore, it is vital to monitor the deformation of these structures with high precision methods and instruments. In this paper, deformation of Masjed-Soleyman earthfill dam has been evaluated by three methods: (1) conventional terrestrial surveying method, (2) instrumentation with high precision geotechnical devices such as extensometers, strain meters, settlement gauges, etc., (3) analytical (numerical) methods, for instance finite element method. Given that the procedure of deformation and especially subsidence is abnormal in this dam, deformation analysis has been created using 18 epochs of micro-geodesy observations and recorded data of instrumentations installed inside the embankment of dam. Outcome of two methods show good accordance with each other and help us to calibrate the FE model as a boundary condition. Also, finite element analysis was done with GeoStudio Software, Version 7.0 to predict the movement of dam in future and to save lots of living of people which have settled across and downstream of the dam.
