Abstract:

Mitigation of scale formation requires an adequate understanding of the interfacial processes such as precipitation, aggregation, adhesion, and deposition. The present work aimed at investigating the tendency of calcium carbonate precipitation from aqueous media by modulating surface forces between two interacting incipient nuclei of calcium carbonate immersed in water. The findings revealed that at T=۲۹۳ K, the tendency of calcium carbonate to precipitate-aggregate would be profoundly influenced by the polar interaction force in association with the electron donor and acceptor surface energy sub-components of calcium carbonate. This is important to control calcium carbonate precipitation-aggregation from aqueous media.
