Abstract:

Introduction: COVID-۱۹ is a respiratory disease with a high transmission. Pregnant women are more prone to viral respiratory infections due to the immune and physiological changes of pregnancy. On the other hand, there is low information on vaccination of pregnant women; hence, we conducted a review study to examine the correlation between maternal-neonatal outcomes and vaccination in pregnant mothers. Methods: We conducted the present review study by collecting data from PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, and Google Scholar using the keywords, namely newborn, delivery, pregnancy, COVID-۱۹, and vaccine until ۲۰۲۱. Finally, we studied and examined ۲۳ studies with inclusion criteria. Results: According to studies, the symptoms of the disease were similar to non-pregnant women. There was no evidence of intrauterine transmission of the virus, but there were hypotheses about vertical transmission. Common maternal outcomes included cesarean section, preterm delivery, abortion, tachycardia, and premature rupture of membranes (PROM), and neonatal outcomes affecting fetal brain growth, and increasing the risk of schizophrenia, and neurological problems. Maternal vaccination also protected infants by transferring antibodies from the placenta to the fetus. Conclusion: Even though pregnancy has not been proven as a factor in COVID-۱۹, self-care education and disease management are important with an emphasis on timely vaccination of pregnant women according to the effects of the disease on mothers and infants.
