Abstract:

This study focuses on the effects of die parameters on deep drawing of a cylindrical part with low thickness to diameter ratio using finite element method. The part is made of low carbon steel sheet with ۰.۲ mm thickness which causes various difficulties in the process including excessive wall thinning and tearing. In this case study the deep drawing is one stage of the manufacturing process for a cartridge of a hunting gun. An Explicit ABAQUS model embedding the elasto-plastic behavior of the material, is created to investigate the effects of die clearance, die radius, punch radius and holder force on the process. The results suggest that due to low ratio of thickness to diameter, the clearance, the die radius and the punch radius should be larger than standard values while the holding force should be smaller than normal condition.
