Abstract:

Grandparenting is an elderly important challenge. While previous studies have focused on health dimensions of grandchildren and their parents ,this investigation was conducted to study the impact of grandparenting on grandparents ‘satisfaction of providing cares to grandchildren, care burden and psychological well-being experienced by the grandparents living in Shiraz city( located in south-eastern of Iran). Methods and materials:This RCT study was conducted among ۱۵۰ grandparents taking care of their grandchildren. They were selected through simple randomization method (۷۵ samples in each group). The data were achieved by using Standard ۱۸-Question Riff Psychological well-being, BCR-۱۳, SCR-۸ Questionnaires. The data were collected at baseline and three months after intervention. Five educational sessions were designed for intervention group. The consequences of the study were analyzed by Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney with SPSS (version ۲۵) before and after intervention. Results:The results showed that the mean scores of grandparents’ satisfaction of caring their grandchildren (<۰.۰۰۱) and their psychological well-being (P<۰.۰۰۱) were increased significantly after intervention in intervention group compared to control group. Besides, the mean scores of grandparents’ care burden related to care provision of grandchildren (<۰.۰۰۱) decreased after intervention in intervention group compared to control group. Conclusion:Regarding the growth of the elderly population in next decades, the role of grandparenting will be significant in Iran. The present study showed that grandparents need education to take their grandparenting roles so that if this does not fulfill, their satisfaction of care and psychological well-being will be declined.
