Petrochemical wastewater pretreatment: A review abstract
Although oil is one of the main energy sources worldwide, it’s processing leads to some unfavorable effects on the environment. Petrochemical industry, including oil refining, petrochemical processing and natural gas production, generates large amounts of wastewater. A large amount of petrochemical wastewater which is a mixture of organic and inorganic compounds was produced in gas and oil industries. Because of increasing the environmental concern, discharging the produced water can be considered a big issue. Different chemical, physical and biological methods including membrane process, biological system, oxidation, adsorption, coagulation and combined process have been applied for treatment of wastewater. Each of the introduced method has its advantages and disadvantages. In this regards, a new methodology for treatment should disolve the disadvantages of the previous methods. The combined method can be more effective because of the usage of advantages of two or more methods. In this works, the recent studies for treatment of petrochemical wastewater have been studied and their advantages/disadvantages were mentioned
