Extraction and determination of some polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon pollutants in Persian Gulf water abstract

In this work, a novel method based on solid phase extraction process was evaluated for the extraction and determination of some homo and heteropolycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in Persian Gulf water. In this ragards, at first magnetite nanoparticles were synthesized and then were coated with a metal-organic framework layer. Afterwards, the magnetic nanocomposite was carbonized under an N2 atmosphere to obtain the magnetic porous carbon. Various characterization techniques such as FT-IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis (EDX), transmission and scanning electron microcopies were employed. Four different polycylic aromatic carbons including benzothiophene, dibenzothiophene, 9,10- dimethylanthracene, and benz[α]anthracene were extracted with the fabricated nanocomposites. Under the optimized conditions, limits of detection and linear dynamic range were achieved in the range of 0.06-0.18 μg L-1 and 0.25-500 μg L-1, respectively. Precision of the method as RSDs was evaluated which was in the range of 4.2-7.0% (within-day, n = 5) and 8.2-11.3% (between-day, n = 3). Ultimately, the method was applied to analyze the Persian Gulf water sample and satisfactoryresults were obtained.
