In this paper, a new structure of an Empty Substrate Integrated Waveguide (ESIW) H-plane Horn Antenna with improved impedance bandwidth and gain is introduced. Stepping the opening area of the SIW horn antenna with optimal dimensions leads to improve its impedance bandwidth. Inaddition to, using ESIW technology instead of the conventional SIW technology would improve antenna gain. Using our new proposed technique, adding radiation slots as magnetic dipoles could drastically reduce HPBW of E-plane pattern in case of the ESIW horn antenna with stair sections. Moreover, adding nonradiating slots keep the radiation performance and could also quadruple impedance bandwidth of the SIW horn. Simulation results show that the proposed antenna provides ۱۴.۱ dBi gain with ۹۸% radiation efficiency and ۱۱.۳% fractional impedance bandwidth from ۲۵.۵ GHz up to ۲۸.۵ GHz.
