Abstract:

Inverse heat conduction methods have been used extensively in aerospace problems to predict unknown parameters. This paper is devoted to the simultaneous inverse determination of the time-varying strength of two heat sources located inside a plate with insulated boundaries. The sequential function specification method (SFSM) is implemented to minimize the least square objective function. Transient temperature recordings at specific sensor positions inside the plate are used in the inverse analysis. To stabilize the inverse problem in the presence of noisy measurements, some future time steps are used as the regularizing parameter. To examine the accuracy of the estimation under the most restricted condition, several different functions in the form of rectangular, triangular, and sinusoidal are chosen. The numerical results show that the proposed inverse technique is stable, and the unknown values are recovered very well.
